Ear Acupuncture in Dogs and Horses

Claudia Loyall, Anja Füchtenbusch

Auriculotherapy is the classic, original ear acupuncture. It is an original, unique diagnostic and therapeutic method of European origin and not a variant of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). The entire body with all its structures, organs and functions is reflected in the fractal of the ear. Its innervation is closely linked to the central nervous system, which organizes and directs the therapeutic stimuli on the ear.

Good somatotopes - i.e. maps of the body regions and structures on the ear - are also crucial for success in veterinary auriculotherapy. The maps in this book are based on the original zone determinations of the discoverers of auriculotherapy and have been transposed to the ear of the dog and the horse.

In addition, there are other special features of veterinary ear acupuncture which also determine the therapeutic results and are described in this book. The most important are the special diagnostic and therapeutic techniques on the animal ear, which differs fromthe human ear in its shape and consistency. The back of the ear, whose representative areas are presented here for the first time, also plays a more essential role in animals.

The book not only introduces the beginner to veterinary auriculotherapy, but also allows the experienced ear acupuncturist to discover many new insights.
